How Do You Integrate Air-Source Heat Pump with Solar Water Heater?

· solar water heater,Air Source Heat Pump

When looking for an air-source heat pump, you should look no further than the Arctic Heat Pump. It is the most energy-efficient air source heat pump unit that works efficiently in cold climates in North America. But it
is not the only reason why the heat pump system is industry-leading for
chronic heating and cooling purposes.

This system is perfectly engineered to integrate quickly with a solar thermal
heating unit. It can significantly increase the overall efficiency and
operational costs of the system by a further 20%. The solar thermal
heating system is a perfect alternative to integrate with an air source
heat pump and can add an extra 47,000 BTU per day on average for
collector.

For the integration, Arctic Heat Pumps use the SunRain Solar Vacuum Tube
Collectors that can deliver hot water to the system even during the
coldest North American winter days. The collectors are well-known as
they are engineered with top-of-the-line technology in North America and
are available with a 10-year warranty.

The efficiency of a solar evacuated tube produces usable energy even during
cloudy days. If the solar thermal system provides 80% efficiency rating,
it means the system absorbs and delivers 80% of the solar energy. As
compared to that, a solar PV panel offers 13-16% efficiency and now you
know why solar thermal systems are successfully working in areas with
the lowest electricity costs around the world.

How Does Integrating Solar Thermal System and Air-Source Heat Pump Work?

Solar evacuated tubes use heat pipe technology that helps in transferring
solar energy to the heat bulb. The heat bulb can be able to attain
temperatures up to 300 C. Every collector has 20 or 30 bulbs that are
inserted into an insulated copper header known as a heat exchanger. The
heat pipes transfer their heat energy to the copper header and to a
special glycol heating fluid.

Every header contains 2.2 liters or 0.6 gallons of the heating fluid. A
temperature sensor is inserted into the header heat exchanger. When the
heating fluid in the top part of the collector goes above the
temperature of the water inside the storage tank, the pump gets
activated which enables starting the energy transfer. The hot heating
fluid gets circulated through the large heat exchanger present on the
bottom part of the tank. After that, the energy is transferred to the
storage tank and then delivered to the remaining home heating system.

Integrating an air-to-water heating system is a perfect combination for solar
systems as they both have the same glycol heating fluid. Unlike other
air-to-air heat pumps, hydronic heat pumps and solar thermal systems
utilize the same principle of energy storage. Most homeowners are
looking to reduce the energy cost; so they consider taking advantage of
combining an air-source heat pump with a solar thermal system to ensure
optimal performance and minimize operational costs.
